Our four year wedding anniversary was well, absolutely incredible. We're not very good at celebrating and planning around here, but somehow we just pulled it all together this time. I remember that for our 3rd anniversary we organized a sitter at the last minute after work so we could pop down to a place a block away for some quick sushi. Then we had to rush back to the sitter and we were both just so exhausted. Then this year came and blew both our minds in many ways.
Firstly, after years and almost an entire marriage of putting our kids and careers first - we were selfish. We took TWO days off work and ignored all mails and calls. We planned well. I pre-packed the boys' school lunches, outfits and snacks. I arranged for them to have a sleep over party with another family that they LOVE and a great mom that we both completely trust with the boys. We got her a beautiful bottle of wine and checked in every now and then. We arranged rides to and from school for them, chatted to their teachers, prepared them - everything was perfect. Really, when you have kids you can't just walk out the door and go away. There is so much planning involved if you want to have a good time and total peace of mind. Planning with neighbors, leaving keys and alarm codes, arranging with nannies, remembering to put the geyser off, unplugging all points - you know the vibe.
It all comes down to planning. We were completely relaxed because we knew that our boys were safe and happy and that everything was taken care of. It makes such a difference. Then, we also planned to eat, experience and stay over at some of the most magnificent places you've ever seen. I would highly recommend copying and pasting exactly what we did - after weeks of research and recommendations. We wanted to be relatively close to home in a place that felt different - which is Constantia. They have a wine route, amazing hotels, restaurants and The Last Word, where we stayed. We had lunch at Simon's at Groot Constantia and dinner at Five Rooms - which will BLOW YOUR MIND. I'm going to need to do another blog post on everything we did, but right now I just wanted to say...
Thank you Graeme for the most fantastic two days that I have probably ever had. Every detail was perfect, appreciated and romantic as hell.
We finished our little adventure on Friday afternoon, then on Saturday morning we packed our bags and headed off for a weekend away with our family. I really am the luckiest girl there ever was and after four days of serious spoilage, romance and family time - I feel so ready and energized for the rest of the year. You're amazing Graeme Bettles - thank you for picking me - over and over again.
