We've recently started using SwimSeal and I wanted to quickly tell you what a great product it is. We've had problems with Bunny's ears and fluid build ups, and this product has come highly recommended by several of my readers. You just put 2 - 3 drops in to each ear before exposure to water or swimming. The drops seal the inner ear and prevent trapped water, ear infections etc. You can get it at most pharmacies, Dischem, Clicks etc.
I also like it because it smells like tea tree oil and goes in like a liquid. The boys and I make a game of it and I tell them that I'm quickly putting magic in their ears so their ears can't get sick. They giggle at the cold sensation. We're starting with swimming lessons this holiday and getting kick boards. I want the boys to be okay with putting their heads under water, so I really needed something to protect their little ears - especially little Ben. I did some research and SwimSeal works like protective, natural ear wax and doesn't affect their hearing or balance. It doesn't have any alcohol or harmful ingredients and they work like invisible ear plugs.
I got a lot of ear infections as a kid - my brother Neil too. I don't want to stress about this over the festive season so we're doing everything we can to protect them. Ear infections are PAINFUL and Ben's grommets has given us quite the scare - especially since he only has a set in the one ear. After some research I know that ear infections and "swimmer's ear" happens after repeated exposure to water which can clean the earwax out of the external ear canal, making it itchy. As the kid scratches in their ears, the sensitive skin of the canal breaks down, allowing an infection to take place. The inside of your ear is moist, which is a happy place for bacteria to grow. Fun. Also nothing quite like some fungus in your kid's ear, which apparently affects one in ten children.
Look if you're packing sunscreen in your holiday bag, then grab a little bottle of SwimSeal and prevent loads of festive season drama. You can snoop around on SwimSeal's website and Facebook page for more information. Dead are the days of cotton wool ear plugs! Happy swimming, kids!
